Home again, home again, jiggety-jog

Home! It is so nice to be back. I am feeling a bit confused time-wise, and a bit sleep-walker-like, but am mostly intact. My brain is porridge, however, so I will make only a few observations today.

1) We went to Venice Beach and Santa Monica yesterday, which was lovely. I spilled a bit of cream on my silk trousers, though, which was less lovely. Anyone know how to get stains out of silk? Or do I have to bite the bullet and take the garment to the drycleaner's? (I do, don't I? Darn). LOML bought me a new skirt to replace the stained trousers, though, so I didn't have to wear them for the long plane journey. This brought the lovely back again.
2) There was a long queue for the toilets on the plane last night. One cubicle in particular was busy for a full half-hour. When the occupant eventually emerged, he revealed himself to be a young, sweaty man clasping two copies of Playboy. This was rather revolting. I am adding it to my mental list of 'disgusting things I saw on this trip' which includes a woman shaving her armpits into a bathroom sink (pub, Northern Ireland) and a man clipping his horrid yellow nails on a cafe table (Barnes & Noble, Fashion Island, US).
3) The very first thing we did this morning was pick up Mink from the cattery. He was thrilled to come home, and has spent the day wandering around the house and garden making sure that no one has dared to move anything. He comes back inside every half-hour or so to give us a cuddle and follow us around talking loudly in catspeak.

Normal service will resume tomorrow!

Welcome home!!!! Happy for Mink (and you), I know how it feels to have your cat apart from you. The gross stories make great travel stories, hehe.

Welcome home!!!!!!!!!!!

And the aeroplane bathroom man just sounds revolting. I feel sorry for the poor people who had to endure the flight sitting next to him.

Welcome Back! Thank you for sharing your wonderful holiday and the meeting with your publisher. What a scream about those 'disgusting things!" Glad Mink is back to normality, too.

Glad you home safe and well! That felt like a proper holiday length of time as well - I guess it has to be, coming from NZ! Yeay for 'big' holidays. I remember when holidays were a definite two weeks on a hot beach, and the years seem to have conspired to whittling this down to an Autumnal weekend eating fish and chips by a cold sea. And I love it and can't wait for this year’s visit! Roll on Cornwall. :)

I bet you were pleased to give your cat a cuddle. And ewwww for the man on the plane, and the woman with her armpits, and the man with his nails! That's just icky. I think noticing such things are a side effect of writing though, observing the world around you. I always notice when people spit on the floor, for example - and wish I didn’t.

Yikes - thanks for sharing those scarring mental images, Andrea. ECH! Anyway, glad you made it home safe and sound, doll. Sleeeeeep away that jetlag.

Welcome home!

You might try hand-washing your trousers in the sink before giving up and taking them to the cleaners. I sometimes even wash "dry clean" clothes in the washing machine on a delicate cycle, but I've never tried it with silk. I just really hate to have my clothes dry cleaned.

I CANNOT believe you saw a woman shaving in a pub. That is the strangest thing I've ever heard.

I cannot stop laughing (sorry) at the sight of the toilet occupant on the plane... or the shaving lady haha or the nail clipper.
It´s awful how people forget they are not alone.
...LOL can´t stop laughing !

Ha - You have no idea how many Americans think it's appropriate to cut their nails in public places, especially public transportation.

Also I have been meaning to add that you're fashion sense is impeccable. You are above the American curve. Everyone is starting to get into Mad Men style and you've been doing it for years. Props to you!

I love your blog and I look forward to reading it when ever I open my google reader!

Welcome home.

Glad you made it home safely.

I cannot believe how disgusting people (men in particular) can be. Seriously, you can't even deal without the playboys for 20 hours? sheesh.
