The World's Happiest Andrea

25 Feb '10
Dress - vintage, gift (originally from Tete a Tete Vintage)
Bag - vintage, thrifted
Shoes - thrifted
Sunglasses - vintage, thrifted
Belt - thrifted

My friend Christina gave me this vintage dress yesterday. It was one of several that Tete a Tete Vintage lent to the wardrobe department of The World's Fastest Indian - I'll have to watch the film again and see if I can spot this dress! I'm not sure whether it was worn by an extra or by a principal actor, but I'm excited either way. I can already tell it's going to be one of my very favourites: I love the print, the colours, the neckline, and the shape - perfect for windy Christchurch days! You know I love my full skirts, but the gusty breezes here play havoc with them. I'm constantly flashing unsuspecting passers-by.

The weather continues to be wonderful. I can't tell you how happy it makes me. I am a hot weather person through-and through, and I only really feel alive in warm weather. I think it's because I grew up in Africa - I've acclimatised to New Zealand's cooler climate to some extent, but I still find the winters very difficult. The darkness is harder to stomach than the cold. There are some things I enjoy about cold weather - hot chocolates, soup, winter clothes, boots, ice-skating - but, a couple of weeks into winter, the novelty of all these things has worn off again, and I'm ready for summer. I'm making the most of these hot days while we have them!

P.S. I am behind on replying to comments, but I'm going to catch up over the next couple of days. Thanks for your patience!
P.P.S. I have discovered that rompers/playsuits are the best things to wear while doing the housework and gardening. They're comfortable, easy to move around in, and they look cute. Perfection!

I think it might be a Fran dress - how exciting! My Year 11s studied the film last year and were horrified that old men have sex too!

Know what you mean about having something nice to wear around the house too. I've been "playing" PE teacher for the most part of this week and I feel like such a scruff... I like getting dressed up for work. Not used to the yoga pants and t-shirts LOL. I never considered myself a fashion maven but this girl feels the urge to get gussied up!

Gorgeous! Love the dress, and that bag is such a great find!

Glad you are getting some warm weather at last. I am upside down to you; I like the cold! :)

And yes, rompers for housework = brilliant!

Fantastic dress! What a gift!

I went into Tete a Tete when I was in Christchurch but was that Vaness (and her husband - I've forgotten his name! - Warren??) weren't there - they were away on holiday. I did buy a couple of necklaces though and I bought Rowan a hat (he always acts like he's doing me a favour by going there with me but he ALWAYS finds something that he wants me to buy him!).

Oh Christchurch sunshine. We have had a little but the Wellington wind wrecks the nice days for me (in saying that, it's actually not too bad outside at the moment!).

Kaiteriteri was just gorgeous. I am the same as you when it comes to summer. Winter = I eat too much and become a tad mopey and complain about the weather even more than usual (oh dear - is there some sun drenched island we can move too that only gets very occasional rain?).

I love that dress! It's so, "grown-up"? I'm not sure of the right word to use, but you could wear that dress to meet the PM and feel confident, respectable, and still yourself.

Love it.

I've just started my own blog, soon to be showing a lot more vintage, if you have a spare moment I'd love you check it out.

Beautiful vintage dress! It looks so gorgeous and sunshine-y where you are. I'm so envious as I freeze up here in New England!

Gorgeous dress! I wonder if I will ever get into wearing them... Every once in a while I tell myself that it's time to woman up and start wearing more dresses and then I end up wearing pants anyway. I guess I am too used to living dressed up vicariously through those of who are good at it.

Tip for winter: Get a daylight lamp for somewhere in the hose and treat yourself to a dose 'natural' light on those dark days. Maybe start a new winter specific hobby too? That should make the whole season more fun. Plus you're in Chch, so you get snow! In Wellington all we get is wind and rain, yuck... Am I glad it is still summer ^_^

What an awesome dress! I love the muted colors and the print. And I'm glad to hear you are enjoying lovely weather! I'll live vicariously through you as the sun in Taipei has been misbehaving and hiding away :-).

It fits you like a glove. The dress is beautiful, but I love your bag too. What a wonderful thrifted treasure.

I know what you mean about being a warm weather girl. I grew up in Florida and now live in New England. I can bear the winters and do enjoy playing with layering in my wardrobe, but enjoy the longer days and warm weather of spring and summer so much more.

What a cute dress! From the neckline shot I thought it might be 70s and was a mite confused, but it's pure 50s vintagy goodness after all. Not that I wouldn't love to see you in my beloved 70s ;)

Scribbles - haha, that's hilarious!

Outfits to wear around the house are always a bit of a problem. I love my comfy harem pants for that reason!

Marianne - thanks! And you have the best romper collection.

Laurel - I'm glad you got to see Vanessa and Warren! Wish we could have caught up - next time. :) I think we should move to a tropical island!

Clare - thanks!

Amber - thanks so much, that's so sweet!

JoAnn - thank you!

The Storialist - I am ridiculously excited about it! Haha :)

Sak - thanks, I think so too.

Marie - thank you! I love them. They're the first pair of sunglasses I've felt really comfortable in.

My husband loves that movie! He is impressed that you have a dress from it. A first for him. He really doesn't care for clothes, LOL!

I love the bag! I have one similar in black that belonged to my Mother. Not too sure of the time period though, but I love how you've matched the colour up with the shades in the dress. Lovely :)
