I was lucky enough to meet up with the beautiful Amelia of Vintage Vivant today. Amelia was so kind and welcoming; she showed me around the city and introduced me to many new experiences - chocolate bacon, cucumber soda and the expression 'my dogs are barking,' to name just a few. And she gave me this gorgeous parasol, just perfect for protection from the sun's heat! We visited an amazing candy store on South Congress (Big Top Candy Shop), Uncommon Objects (I am absolutely going to furnish my house from here when we move) and several great vintage stores. It was such a fantastic day, and I feel like I've known Amelia for years. Looking forward to our formal-wear ukelele evenings, lovely lady!
The Aladdin's Cave that is Uncommon Objects.

Like kids in a candy store ...
And here, apropos of nothing, are some pictures of Austin taken from our hotel windows. Such a beautiful place!

I LOVE Big Top! Best candy store I have ever been to!
I'm still catching up with the fact you are in Austin! The soda shop looks fab. Chocolate bacon sounds just wrong. You both look beautiful with your parasols and I love both your frocks. Did you meet through Blogging? Blogging is better than a dating agency for getting kindred spirits together. xx
Jealous!! I'm quite besotted with Amelia, she seems quite fascinating and delightfully eccentric lady, and I love her tattoos. Will be gagging for pics of the formal ukelele evenings!
Sounds like a wonderful day!

what does 'my dogs are barking' mean?! i'm intrigued haha.
My granny used to say 'my dogs are barking', to mean her feet hurt! She wasn't from Austin though! :D
Oh that looks like so much fun - I love the soda shop! Popping over to look at Vintage Vivant now :)
And now on day five! I feel like I have had a whistle-stop tour of Austin. The picture of you and Amelia is lovely – love your outfits and those gorgeous parasols. Chocolate bacon though? And it is nice you say? Hm. I can see the appeal in cucumber soda though. Uncommon objects is also my sort of gaff. The night shot of Austin looks wonderful. Hope you find some nice potential places today on your house-hunting.
i def recognized her! that candy shop is awesome!

Beautiful post! How much fun is all this?
i am absolutely delighting in your posts about your trip so far!!! just read them all last night to catch up and your exuberance and zest for everything you encounter is absolutely....adorable! not to sound patronizing in any way, i mean that as full of admiration and happiness for the way you describe everything in austin. from the grafitti to the friendliness to the thrift stores to the skyline to the freeways to the food. i LOVE IT! can't wait to hear about everything else.
Your smiling face in the image of you behind the glass window is simply contagious. You look really, really happy. And I am happy for you.

I think Austin agrees with you. With your parasol you look like an ideal Southern belle, even if you are from farther south than most!
That top parasol picture is so pretty! You both look lovely.
Oh my, chocolate bacon?!?!? This was the "hot" item at the Wisconsin State Fair last summer but I never did have the guts to try it :)
Adore the parasols :)
I stumbled upon your blog because you mentioned Art City Austin! I was working at the festival and I've been trying to find blogs that have mentioned the fest. I adore your blog - especially your Austin posts. :) I'm so happy to see that you enjoy Austin as much as I do. It's such a wonderful city.
