And on its previous owner:

It makes this dress even more special knowing that it came from one of my biggest style inspirations.
I am very excited today - first of all, I am getting my hair cut, which means that I will no longer feel like an Old English Sheepdog, and, secondly (more importantly), I am going out this evening with a group of Austin fashion bloggers. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone - particularly Diya of In Her Stilettos. It will be lovely to spend some time with like-minded people. I have also joined a writer's group here, which will be invaluable as I rework the manuscript (again), and I can't wait to go along to my first session.
One thing I'm having to get used to here in the States is tipping. We don't have a tipping culture in New Zealand, really - sure, if you get amazing service, you might leave something, but it's not a matter of course. I actually really like leaving a tip, but the problem lies in remembering - over the past couple of weeks I have sometimes forgotten to leave one, which makes me feel terrible. I suppose it's just a matter of getting used to it. As far as I can understand, you tip everyone who provides a service, right? Including hairdressers? Any tips? (Har, har).

welcome to the states and can't wait to meet you today!!!
Anyway, as for tipping... I'm sure you already know this but it's basically 15-20% of bill after tax for good/average service...more if you got amazing service. 10% if you got really really crappy service or if it's a buffet and all the waiter/waitress did is refill your drinks.
my bf usually gives $5 for a pedicure that's $20...since people who does your pedicure have to do a lot more than some waitress... so I suppose the same goes for hairdressers? I wouldn't know about that one since I cut my own hair...
yes! it feels weird now when i go home to NZ as my friends tell me *not* to leave anything which now find hard to do! I give $10-$20 per haircut depending and $5 for nails etc..barista $1 per coffee...
I know how you feel re: tipping! I am still not used to it after a year in the US!
I do tip generally when in the US, but once in NYC we got NO service at all, and so decided not to leave any tip. The waitress - I say this ironically as she got us to order and pick up from the bar - ran out after us and said didn't you forget something, we said I don't think so, she said yeah you did a tip, we turned and said I don't think so you didn't even give us service, I don't think she expected that from us 'reserved' english! But really I wasn't going to give somebody a tip for nothing!!
Usually though when in the US we get great service and give better than average tips!
Oh how cute & summery!
I am, as you know, only recently beginning to appareciate yellow as a colour on myself! :P
That dress looks really good on you! :-) I haven't been in the States, but I will be moving to another European country and never really thought of the tipping, I must find out whether they do it there!
You look fantastic in yellow! I adore this polka dot dress.

yellow is one of my new fav colors! looks great on you!
That dress is amazing, and it looks wonderful on you!
For tips, I'd say rule of thumb is generally at least 15% for food and usually 20% for hair, sometimes more if we had great service!
That dress is so cute. I cant wait for warmer weather, I havent seen my legs in what feels like years. Im glad all went well with your move and that Mink has settled in well.
That dress is gorgeous and I love, love, love those socks!! Outfit looks lovely - can't wait to see the new hair :-)

Wow, you're adorable! Sorry I didn't get the chance to introduce myself yesterday, but next time for sure. =)
I covet this gorgeous dress! I did notice it from afar, but didn't get a chance to meet you, since I had to come to the happy hour so late. Normally, I'm much better mannered and will introduce myself properly, I promise!
What kind of writing do you do? I write mostly YA, although my latest novel and I are at a stalemate, so I'm stepping away to work on an older project. Would love to chat about writing with you at some point. :)
this dress looks so cute on you! i like how you've paired it with the cute white ankle socks too (:

You seriously looked beyond adorable in this outfit. That dress is killer!
that dress is incredible!
haha, i've always worried about forgetting to tip people in the usa because it isn't that customary here in australia, either.
Basically, to sum up tipping in the US: we dont pay people in service industries very much, so they rely on tips. Its also a great way to tell your server that they are doing a great or not-so-great job! However, I totally disagree with the first comment about tipping 10% for "really really crappy service" !! I give 10% for okay service and NONE for "really really crappy service" !! You are NOT required to tip, and servers should NOT expect a tip, especially for being rude. This is a misconception. But like I said, it has to be BAD for a server to get no tip at all. Hope that helps and welcome officially to the US!
