It's my birthday on the 20th, and we had a party on Saturday night - to celebrate our house-warming, as well. My friend Sandhya made me an amazing birthday cake, complete with fondant dresses inspired by Theresa's designs. It was pretty much solid chocolate, too. Best cake ever.
On Sunday, we took Caroline down to Lake Travis. The landscape there has always reminded me of Zimbabwe, and it felt like the old days again. We used to sail little Optimists on Mazvikadei Dam, and spend weekends beside Lake McIlwaine - called Lake Chivero now, I think. The iron-coloured water and the blonde bush look just the same. All we needed was a buck or two drinking on the banks.
We even found something similar to the ant lions we used to entice out of holes - little creatures that build funnel-shaped traps for passing insects. No wonder I feel so at home in Texas.

Lovely pictures! Sorry I missed the party, looks like y'all had a great time!
Happy happy (belated) birthday!
The landscape indeed does remind me of Lake McIlwaine/ Chivero - I remember going there on quite a few school trips. Just booked tickets to visit Harare in October and I'm super excited! It's been about 12 years, can't believe it!
Escapade - what school did you go to? Have a great time in Harare - it's been 10 years since I was last there!
